The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is
offered to children between the ages of 3 and 6. The atrium allows
children to express their God-given spirituality in an environment that
is conducive to learning, praying, and sharing with others.
(Mid-September through mid-June) Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a worldwide Christian formation program for children at various age levels, and is the curriculum of choice of the Bishop of Los Angeles. The atrium is a specially prepared place for children to actively engage with God and deepen their connection with Jesus, the Good Shepherd. The Catechist's role is to prepare themselves and the atrium environment and make presentations that "call forth" the child's response rather than "pour in" information. The child is provided with hands-on material related to Biblical stories, parables, liturgical experiences and prayer. Our beautiful atrium is a reflection of our sanctuary allowing the child to experience a wonderment, peace, joy and meditation relationship with God in his own space. In the atrium children learn to set the altar, the liturgical calendar, where Jesus lived, worked and died, and the parables and prophecies. This is my forth year as a Catechist for Christ Church. As a classroom teacher for many years I find this program to be exquisitely age appropriate. I invite everyone to visit the atrium and experience our journey as children and catechist walk hand in hand with the Good Shepherd. Sylvia Allen, Catechist |
